Nine Brazilian cities, such as Rio de Janeiro, Osasco, Uberlândia, Natal, and Brasilia, have recently been awarded customized domain categories by the Center for Information and Coordination of the BR Point (NIC.br), in collaboration with the Internet community.
Entrepreneurs, professionals, and individuals who want a domain name linked to these cities can utilize a unique extension. They can register domains such as my site. river, mynegotium. bsb.br, my name. Natal.br, and more to pay tribute to their preferred cities.
Dates and locations
The nine chosen cities include Osasco, Brasilia, Maceió, Aracaju, Cuiabá, Uberlândia, Natal, Rio Branco, and Rio de Janeiro. These cities will have their website domains available for registration on the Registry website.

The Cities campaign has been running since May and has collected over 7,600 proposals for the 46 cities involved. Among these, twelve cities have already approved registrations, with Porto Alegre (.poa.br), Florianópolis (floripa.br), and Vitória (vix.br) being the most favored choices.
Other cities such as João Pessoa, Belém, Recife, Macapá, ABC Paulista, and São José dos Campos have custom domain categories.

The voting process goes on
Twenty-eight other cities, including Belo Horizonte, Curitiba, and São Paulo, are still accepting .br domain name suggestions through the campaign website, where the full regulations can also be viewed.
Brazilians aged 12 and above can submit numerous suggestions, and cities with higher numbers of suggestions may have their websites established sooner. Participation is optional and will benefit your city.
How to sign up for your domain
National domains (.br) can be registered through Registration.br or a hosting company, with the former being the more cost-effective option despite the advantages of the latter.

A .br domain typically costs around R$ 40 per year and the price may differ depending on the service provider. Registering a domain is a straightforward process that requires just a few steps and a CPF or CNPJ. If the document is already linked to a domain, the new domain must be registered with the same company.
