Three new cities, Vitória, Belém, and Recife, obtained unique domain names through a public vote starting on May 15. They can now use the extensions “vix.br,” “belem.br,” and “recife.br” to represent themselves online.
Domain registration for the .br extension can be done on the Registry website on June 19, 22, and 26. The annual fee for the domain is approximately R$40 and can differ depending on the hosting company.
Professionals, companies, and individuals in Vitória, Belém, and Recife can utilize a custom domain to enhance their local identity. Those with an existing domain can also benefit from new extensions by adding them as additional domains. Registering various extensions for the same domain is a straightforward process that can offer advantages.
Other cities considered with unique domain.
Three additional cities have recently introduced new domains that are now available for registration: João Pessoa (jampa.br), Porto Alegre (poa.br), and Florianópolis (floripa.br).
Over 40 cities with populations exceeding 500,000 are still being provided with recommendations by DPN (First Level Domain). A dedicated website has been established for the NIC.br initiative, enabling users to submit their suggestions for city names or nicknames. The aim is for online users to propose names that cities can be known and acknowledged by.
Demi Getschko, CEO of NIC.br, emphasizes the importance of considering community preferences before expanding registration options for the ‘.br’ domain.
Over 6,700 domain suggestions were submitted to the campaign website, including both interesting and intriguing options. See the list we compiled with some of these suggestions.
